Academy's Annual Student Culmination Performance
Early June our First Steps Program, Main Division Program and Intensive Ballet Division Program, participate in a performance at the Margaret L. Jackson Arts Center on the campus of Bristol Community College.
The majority of the school year is dedicated to training. All performance pieces are learned in a few short months and in the case of the Intensive Ballet Division students sometimes 1-2 weeks is all that is need to learn their choreography. The Academy’s philosophy is that well trained and prepared students of any age are able to learn choreography in a short amount of time.
Summer Dance Workshops
Each summer the Academy offers a variety of half and full day programs for all ages and abilities. These include our Young Dancers Workshop, Coaching Intensive and Dance Tech Intern Program. All workshops finish with performances that are held at the Academy Studio Theatre. Have fun, improve your skills and expand your performance experience!
Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP)
This is the only student ballet competition in America which awards scholarships to the leading dance schools in the U.S. and abroad. YAGP was created to provide extraordinary educational and professional opportunities for young student dancers, acting as a stepping stone to a professional dance career. Intensive Ballet Division students 9 years and older who show aptitude, commitment and desire are chosen by audition to compete and or participate in workshops and master classes.
I wanted to personally thank you for inviting Julia and I to experience YAGP. She enjoyed the adventure of the big city, the time spent with her dance girls, the thrill of the stage and the honor of dancing in the studios of Boston Ballet. I enjoy watching her live her best life and feel blessed to be able to witness such beauty. Your hard work and your dedication to these girls does not go unnoticed. Encouraging someone to be their best is a pure act of love; truly God's work. Peace, love and joy ~ C. Paulo (parent)
Cast Member with the Spindle City Ballet
The SCB is the South Coast's only non-profit professional ballet company. It was established in 1995 by Lisa Bibeau who is also the founder of the Academy. The mission of the SCB is to offer professional dance performances to the community and is a separate organization from the Academy. While the SCB is a non-profit professional ballet company, the Academy is a for-profit school and its mission is to train dancers. Both organizations not only share Ms. Bibeau as its director but also the Academy space. The SCB produces several productions throughout the year. Each fall the SCB hold auditions for children and adult roles for its annual production of The Nutcracker. Dancers chosen to be cast members have the unique experience to work along with professional dancers gaining an inside perspective to the life of a professional dancer.
Spindle City Ballet Jr. Company
Intensive ballet division students who are 12 years and older and have studied ballet for 4 years are eligible to audition for the SCB's Jr. Company. Jr. company members are committed to perform with the SCB for an entire season. This branch of the SCB is designed as a training ground for serious students who desire a career in dance. It offers a realistic experience to what would be expected of them as a professional artist.
